4 fuckin months they've been waiting for their time...

So I was on a kind of vacation from blogging. This time we bring you the Weight Of Disgust. One of the most hating-to-the-core band i know. I'll let you check it out, what the masters of hate have to say... I got lucky enough to complete this interview after 4 months, it features the drum-beating bastard Markku (Taste-T) and growler, BUDDHA (Anssi)

SO HERE WE GO!

1. Please give an introduction about your band? When you have started, where are you coming from?

Markku - Weight Of Disgust comes from Lappeenranta, we started at the end of 2009 by me, Taste. I had a few songs done, so we tried them with Sutinen brothers (Kelloks Frosters) and the boys decided to take apart. Soon after was vocalist Buddha (from Callous 53) hitting up with us and WoD was born.
2. Your releases so far?

-Anssi ; we recorded the demo at Konnunsuo, as well was recorded both C53 demo's. We decided to make a raw demo. So called "fuck you".- for all the wanna-be's, we decided to put it in our style, the Old School DIY.

3. Tell something further about your band, how do you come up with text, is lyrically impressing more important than musically
Anssi - Maku usually contributes mostly, and makes lyrics, and composes..as I sometimes do also attribute with this action, since I have to GROOOWL.. Actually Sutinen's boys don't make any work at all HA! I make some compliment's for Maku to play some drum fills, heh.
Markku – First off i start off with the beats and so on.  I don’t like to write anything thats full of shit, mostly inspiration comes out of desperation, especially our first songs are much depressed as so was I. The songs later on have become a bit more positive, or not, the hating has just moved to another direction, since I’ve realized that I’m not to blame for all the shit that I’ve gone through, growing up mentally is what I mean by this. I don’t see our band as “hatecore”, the impressions are deeper lyrically & musically, we try to dig in.

4. What are your intentions as a band, playing gigs, get released by a label or stay independent?

Anssi – We’d like to play gigs as much as possible. We would also like to release some shit, whether It will be by ourselves or by any label interested. We wont ask any labels but if someone is interested they can contact us. If we find one interested and one whom will give us free hands in production, we’d be glad but if not then we’ll make it by ourselves, and better than none.

5. Your opinions about HC/punk-scene becoming more available/accessible easy since today the kids have PC at every corner, does it lose it’s street level point-of-view with such action?
Anssi – I think it’s okay because nowadays kids can hear new bands (the better and the not so) and will go to gigs by easily, since scene is easier  to approach. And yeah, they will buy albums still, by pirating does not so far really harm the people doing this music.
Markku - What scene? As i see it there ain't one...i don't see internet as a threat. I'd rather blame the finnish bar culture. Lame ass shows you don't wanna go. Guys are too drunk, too sober, broke or just greedy pricks. There's also lack of people who care enough about the shit goin on...
Not so many active hardcore bands left in Lappeenranta. Fit My Crime and Worth The Pain,(though their members have moved all over the country.)

6. How do you see politics afflicting with bands today? Is SxE really an option in Finland? How about animal rights, they all were left back in the 90’s?  As the bands today are all about just a proper beatdown at the shows?
Anssi – I never had any interest with this kind of shit. It’s all a fuck you from me.
Markku - Well, I think we have some"political" lyrics. if expressing your hate on society is politics, so be it. I started going to shows same time the sxe/antifa -hype was on. Now it's totally history... But there are more of those bands who have nothing to say and just pounding their metalmoshbeatdown. Nothing bad in political bands or the one's who just represent and shit but make sure the shit's honest.

7. Do you see it more important, for a band, or as a person, to be loyal for what you stand for or could it be that opinions change and therefore a person, or a band, reaches a new level or does he/she/the band sell itself out?

Anssi – Loyalty above it all, because this is pretty much a hobby for me, and not a job that I get paid. And it’s a way of life for me too, giving an aspect for stuff I do in everyday life.
Markku - Loyalty above all, yeah. In life it doesn't always go that way around, though. But believing in your own thing is most important. As a person, especially. Believe in yourself, not the politicians.
This next one’s an easy piece. Name your favourite albums and bands!

Markku  - Not so easy as it would have been expected… But my all time favorite bands are most likely these;
Tension* (Long Island), Sheer Terror, The Stooges, Neglect, Dare To Defy
Anssi – Some of my favourite albums include the next; One Life Crew – Crime Ridden Society, Blood For Blood – Spit my last breath, Madball – Set it off, All Out War – Truth in the age of lies and For those who were crucified.
SO SHOUT OUT ALL YOU'VE GOT ON MIND, PROMOTE YOUR BAND, SAY FUCK YOU TO EMO AND SO ON

Anssi – FUCK LIFE! PS Cheers to No One Is Safe's dudes (for organizing us our first gig)

Markku - Cheers to my brother vesku, it's been nice to chill in his house. Cheers to our hoes FIT MY CRIME.
This didn't come up yet, so we're gonna put out 8-song release in near future, with or without a label. Stay tuned! Visit our facebook  @ http://www.facebook.com/wod53
& visit us online http://lprhardcore.net/wod/

Anssi & Markku – And specially cheers also for Olli N1IS!

3. How well does it go, meaning running the distro and daytime job all-time?

It goes well, 'cause I don't plan putting out more records and thus don't have to think about any work with punk rock for most of the time. And I don't have a full time job: I get to rest enough to take the shit in work at school, deal with other "ants" in the system in general, etc psycholigally sound. .

4. Which bands have you released during the time of HTR and KidneyRecs?

Kidney Records was the first name of my label. The first bands were Justice Shall Prevail and Bonded With Blood  on the first 7" - a split 7" - the Bonkers and ex-Project members' new ANAL THUNDER, Furnace, Rejected and No Redeeming Social Value. The list looks like random search of lowset record sales in history, doesn't it?

5. You've also played for some in-famous 53-bands. Including Horny Boys, AT&VM, tell us about them?
Seems like some young punks have been taking influences especially about the HB-time, hard to find but still fluential releases?

It's fuckin confusing. I understand Horny Boys was kinda raw and hard in some way and I should have had the guts to put the 2001 demo on 7", but when I saw the young dorks were pogoing to us at our re-union gig at Husaari in 2007 , I was like what a joke the LPR punk scene is. No, really, I'm glad they paid to get to see us..
(editors note; i remember we were drinking kilju with vesku and listening C-60 copies of Stands For Anything NYHC)
Yes, I remember all the moments with the my hardcore boys
getting fucking drunk.

How I became a singer for Antti Tuska is story of its own. I peaked at being a proper fucking LPR drunk punk the night I joined Antti Tuska.
The next day I was drunk in public in sunny LPR center and slept with band in the park til late night. I fought my nose flat and found myself stomach sun burn to flesh in the morning.

I have also played in Callous 53 and Shithouse Rockers. (for C53 editor has nothing to say about, punch drunk, pissed off)

6. Tell me how you got to Punk rock-scene. As today Hell's Tone Recs is a well known and appreciated label and distro in Finnish music. Anal Thunder has hit the charts, did it bring you money, are Hell's Tone going for the money?

I got in punk rock in '93 when I went to junior high and met friends who had big brothers who skated and new about punk, hardcore and alternative bands.. Firiends started bands and I didn't have an instrument so i started recording tapes and writing shit and pen paling with scenesters in Finland and abroad (editors note; in that time there was no INTERNET so you could only reach people by snail-mail!)

I like the money question! Anal thunder's success is a mystery...
Hellstone Records has lost a lot of pennies. I have learned some business along the way, but never played by its rules.

7. But still it seems like the "WORLD NEEDS ANOTHER HERO". In 60's, world had The Beatles, Stones etc. In 70's The Clash, Pistols, in the 80's came Thrash, speaking about politics.

V - what do you mean by this question?

By this question I mean that we do also need "rebellion", whether it comes from music, lifestyle or politics (which i hate to speak about)

I think all music has its place, but we have enough of passively aggressive bands =95% of todays music
Politics can be entertaining to hear if band is genuine about it.
Hardcore punk can be  a lot more than it is today. It is more of a record collector types hobby like garage punk is. Nothing wrong with that, but it is probably as threatning to status quo as Metallica

8. So, if hardcore / punk becomes a "crowd favorite", it loses all the good things it used to have?

Yes. It's not elitist to say. It's just the way things go in societies. You can't shock with the same thing for long.

9. As well as The Sex Pistols shocked people by wearing swastikas on t-shirts? Or Lemmy Kilmister? It's OK as long as you know where to draw the line?
(editors line; today Pistols and Motörhead are played in Finnish Radio, when requested. Shock value has been worn out of it own shelf)

Its a different thing to wear it to shock or because you like a type of clothing,. Neither thing is my thing.

10. Keep it straight now, your last call. Who would like to mention, advertise, and so on...

Thanks to Maku, Texa, Ola and others who stop by at Gasthouse Hellstone regularly. Shouts to my top hoes - you know who you are, Weight of Disgust who rehearse in my sauna.  Labels who I trade with. You are all cool. I don't want to humanize your blog, but I'm thankful to my enemies too.

Short interview with Carl from The Templars

OK, here we go! Carl Templar gave me a shit, which I really appreciate since The Templars are one of my favourite bands from ever since. So here we go.. The Templars @ Myspace

1. Please give an introduction about your band? When you have started, where are you coming from?

- We are a band from New York, starting out on Long Island. We started playing music in 1990, just Phil & I. We started out jamming in my parent’s garage, doing cover songs. Finally, we decided to make it a real band and write our own songs. Our first gig was June 3, 1992 at the Holbrook Civic Center. The show was put on by some friends of ours and included bands like 411, Scapegrace, and Common Ground. We’ve been playing every since.

2. Your releases so far?

-Our discography is huge. Our first release was “The Poor Knights of Acre” 7” EP on Sonic Aggression Records. It was released in 1993. Our first full-length album was “The Return of Jacques DeMolay” on Dim Records in 1994. We’ve been steadily releasing records ever since.

3. And traditionally, best release so far?

-My favorite releases so far are “Outemer” CD on GMM Records (2005), “1118-1312” Mini-CD on Do A Runner/Go-Kart (1997) and the split 12” with The Glory Stompers on Knockout Records (1996)

4. Past members?

-Past members include Don from Sub-DK on bass, Chet from Adolph & the Piss Artists (APA) on 2nd guitar, and Matt from Counterattack on bass.

5. Best places you've ever played?

-In the US, I would say Atlanta. We had a lot of great gigs there and they crowds were always fantastic. In Europe, I would say Germany. The shows in Germany are always a good time.

6. What kinds of music are you up to?

-Lately, I’ve been doing more power pop/melodic punk stuff with my side project, Stamford Bridge. The Templars haven’t been working on anything new, though we hope to start working on a new full-length album soon.

7. What inspires you to write the stuff you do?

-My daily life and personal observations inspire my music, particularly my lyrics. My musical inspirations come from many different sources.

8. If you would have the chance, with whom would you like to play a gig? (even a dead man!)

-The Who. I’ve always been a big fan of theirs, especially their earlier stuff.

9. Your personal opinions about;

- politics
-Boring.

- nowadays rock n roll
-Very boring.

- binge drinking (serious fun for finns, hah!)
-It was fun when I was younger, but at my age it takes too long to recover from it.

- do you really give a fuck about this dumbass interview?
-Sure I do. It the only way fans will know anything about us.

10, The last call, cheers, fuck_yous and thanks. Promote your band!
-Paljon kiitoksia meidän suomalaisille faneillemme

Welcome!

First of all, I'd like to welcome all of you.
This is my small and shitty e-zine.
I will post some interviews and record reviews about the music I like; mostly Oi!, hardcore, punk, and maybe something different, time to time.

So, Hammer In The Nails!
